Despite having lived 10 minutes away from each other for most of their lives, having attended the same High School, having attended the University of Arizona at the same time both pursuing public health degrees, and being in the same lecture without knowing it, Diego and Elizabeth finally "met" in October of 2021 at the Pima County Health Department. They worked together under a CDC COVID-19 grant addressing health disparities. After months of many, many COVID-19 testing sites and distribution of about a billion COVID-19 test kits, Diego walked up to Elizabeth’s cubicle and asked her to go to lunch with him on that coming Thursday. Thursday came and they went to lunch, afterwards Diego asked Elizabeth on their first date. Their first date took place at a local Dave and Buster’s where Elizabeth infamously failed miserably at every attempted game. Though Elizabeth demonstrated most unimpressive sports skills and a deep lack of sports understanding in general, Diego was not deterred and proceeded to ask her on another date. They have yet to return to Dave & Busters.
Fast forward three years, the two are now homeowners and live together along with their 85 lb labrador/pitbull/St. Bernard/terrier mix pup named Thor. Though Thor was an active participant in the couple's engagement, due to his anxious nature he will only be present at the wedding in spirit.
Both the groom and bride's families are overjoyed and have showered the newly engaged couple with love and support, for which they are eternally grateful.
